Advice from the Pro's.

I have been asked to speak to a room of cancer survivors. I have always felt that I could write about anything, but staring in the faces of people who live cancer, who breathe cancer makes me a little stuck. What would you like to hear about from a fellow cancer survivor, and what tone do I take? Any advice from my professional cancer survivors out there. Is there such a thing?

as a newly diagnosed cancer fighter, I guess I would want you to see the fear in my eyes and just speak to me from your heart. Dont leave out the hard parts, explain the suffering and the triumph and the defeat…
I dunno, maybe thats asking a little much. I know Im scared to death right now and all anyone keeps telling me is I’m strong and I’ll beat this.
But congrats to you, I think it’s a wonderful opportunity.

I have given a couple of talks before on this topic. People don’t want to hear about your “Personal Hell” as much as they want to hear your personal triumphs on your journey. You didn’t cave in to cancer and it didn’t get the best of you—even though it tried several times—you, your faith, your support helped you through.

People want to hear success—they are already scared—they see you as victory and want to make it too—It’s the old adage, change your life, change your attitude. What would you do if you knew everything was going to be ok? I think the message I got was live today—we don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow…
Good luck and would love to hear how it goes.
